Abdul Latif Jameel, Toyota complete new hydrogen mobility pilot
Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: Abdul Latif Jameel Motors successfully completed the second phase of a hydrogen mobility pilot in partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU). According to a recent press release, this pilot took place from 26 to 28 January at PNU’s campus, as part of an MoU between the university and the Ministry of Energy to test hydrogen fuel cell mobility solutions. Government officials, academics, and industry representatives attended the opening ceremony, highlighting the growing importance of hydrogen technologies in the Kingdom’s energy transition. The first phase of the project, completed in September, focused on feasibility and initial testing. The second phase expanded the scope to test how hydrogen solutions could be scaled and operated across different use cases within the university. In addition to Toyota Mirai fuel cell vehicles, the pilot included a hydrogen-powered Caetano H2.City Gold bus, a Toyota fuel cell forklift, and a stationary hydrogen generator, all using Toyota’s fuel cell technology. This allowed partners to assess hydrogen performance in transport and stationary applications. The initiative builds on other hydrogen projects in Saudi Arabia, including hydrogen taxi trials in Jeddah, hydrogen bus trials in Makkah, and research collaboration with KAUST. The partners said the pilot reflects their long-term commitment to supporting Saudi Vision 2030 and the Kingdom’s sustainability goals.
