Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: Britain is set to sign a minerals cooperation partnership with Saudi Arabia, a move that could enhance supply chains, create new opportunities for British businesses, and attract investment into the UK.
According to Reuters, the partnership comes at a crucial time for Britain, which seeks a secure, long-term supply of critical minerals, such as copper, lithium, and nickel, as announced by the British government on Tuesday.
These materials are essential not only for manufacturing smartphones and electric cars but also for constructing data centers crucial to the development of artificial intelligence systems. Saudi Arabia, with an estimated $2.5 trillion in untapped mineral resources, is positioning itself as a key player in the global critical minerals trade.
This agreement is part of Britain’s broader industrial strategy, which aims to improve national security, boost economic growth, and create new jobs. It also follows ongoing negotiations between British and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) officials on a free trade agreement.
British Industry Minister Sarah Jones will lead a trade mission to Saudi Arabia, accompanied by representatives from 16 UK critical minerals companies, including Cornish Lithium and Beowulf Mining. The new partnership will be officially signed at the Future Minerals Forum (FMF) in Riyadh, where these companies will showcase their expertise to potential clients.
