
Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: Saudi Arabia has rapidly embraced digital payments, fueled by high smartphone penetration, fintech adoption, and widespread use of platforms like Mada and STC Pay.
Point of sale (PoS) transactions in the Kingdom recorded more than 2.7 billion during the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, with sales exceeding SAR 181.7 billion.
Recent figures by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed that the number of PoS terminals grew to over 2 million in Q1-25, up from 1.9 million in the previous quarter.
The food and beverages (F&B) sector led PoS sales at SAR 27.1 billion, followed by the restaurants and cafés sector, which achieved sales amounting to SAR 23.9 billion.
The report further revealed that the number of e-commerce transactions made via Mada cards hit 370 million in Q1-25, with sales estimated at over SAR 69 billion.
In March alone, the PoS sales surpassed SAR 65.6 billion, with transactions slightly increasing to 892.4 million from 882 million in February.
