
Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: Saudi Arabia announced the launch of the AI Hackathon for Materials Discovery, an initiative aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence to accelerate innovation in material science.
The KACST–UC Berkeley–Humain National Hackathon on GenAI for Materials Discovery is being held under the supervision of Professor Omar Yaghi, pioneer of reticular chemistry and recipient of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, as per King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST)’s announcement on X.com.
Organized by Academy 32, Humain, UC Berkeley, and KACST, the hackathon brings together researchers, innovators, and AI experts to explore the use of generative AI in discovering and designing new materials.
The initiative seeks to develop innovative solutions to global energy and climate challenges while advancing the Kingdom’s transition toward a sustainable knowledge economy. Registration for the hackathon runs from 14 to 23 October 2025.
