Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority (TGA) granted the trial operating license for the hydrogen train for the first time in the Kingdom and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The TGA granted the license to Bashar Al-Malik, CEO of Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), in the presence of the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Saleh Al-Jasser, the authority announced in a statement.
The hydrogen train technology will contribute to supporting the sustainability of rail transportation, bolstering the Kingdom’s logistical position, and fulfilling the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative.
The hydrogen train is considered one of the most crucial innovations in the rail transportation sector as it generates the energy required for operating and moving trains with zero carbon emissions, in alignment with the Kingdom’s objectives of reducing carbon emissions in transportation activities by 25% by 2030.
