Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) ranked Saudi Arabia among the top 20 countries in the Circular Carbon Economy (CCE) Index.
During COP28, KAPSARC revealed the index that covers 64 nations and represents 90% of global economic activity. The index offers an extensive evaluation of global progress toward achieving net-zero emissions and readiness for the circular carbon economy.
Fatih Yilmaz, Climate Expert at KAPSARC, stated that the index observes a growing interest among countries to expand the application of critical technologies such as carbon capture and storage and hydrogen.
He affirmed that the gaps in access to sustainable finance and clean technologies continue to grow, which can hinder the efforts for an orderly transition.
The CCE Index includes two crucial sub-indices: CCE Performance and CCE Enablers. Each country receives assessments on a 0 to 100 scale for both sub-indices, with scores aggregated to determine the Total CCE Index score.
This comprehensive score measures the country’s effectiveness in navigating the transition to a circular carbon economy, considering both current performance and potential for future progress.
