Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: CarbonCure Technologies, the global leader in carbon utilization technologies for the concrete industry, signed agreements with Abdullah Abdin Company and Gulf Cryo to integrate carbon capture and utilization technologies for construction in Neom’s development.
The agreements, signed during the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) Forum, build on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Neom and the Saudi Ministry of Energy, a recent statement unveiled.
CarbonCure, Abdullah Abdin, and Gulf Cryo will collaborate to produce high-quality, lower-carbon concrete that utilizes CO2, following Circular Carbon Economy principles.
Abdullah Abdin, a Saudi company specializing in ready-mix concrete, cement products, and asphalt, will utilize captured carbon dioxide (CO2) in its concrete products, leveraging CarbonCure's technologies for sustainable concrete.
Gulf Cryo will also supply CO2 recovered from its carbon capture technologies to be injected by CarbonCure. Upon injection, this CO2 immediately mineralizes and becomes permanently embedded.
CarbonCure CEO Robert Niven said: “This agreement results from the enablement of the Ministry of Energy and many project stakeholders. We are very grateful to have Abdin as a local concrete producer partner, enabling lower carbon concrete production with CarbonCure’s technologies at its plant in Ghayal and utilizing Gulf Cryo CO2”
Meanwhile, Tariq Abdin, CEO of Abdullah Abdin, affirmed the company’s dedication to delivering sustainable, high-quality materials that support Saudi Arabia’s infrastructural growth.
“This collaboration aligns with our mission to lead in environmentally responsible construction while advancing Saudi Vision 2030. Together, we are setting new benchmarks for green building in the region,” Abdin elaborated.
On his part, Georgios Beretsos, Chief Commercial Officer of Gulf Cryo, commented: “This project is a successful example of what the power of collaboration can yield. It is our pleasure to partner with CarbonCure and Abdin towards a shared sustainable vision.”
Gulf Cryo is a leading carbon-as-a-services (CaaS) developer and industrial gas solutions provider in the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey with a presence in 10 countries across the region.
