Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: Intra Defense Technologies, a Riyadh-based factory specializing in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), is set to expand its production capacity for both large and small drones to satisfy growing demand in the Saudi market, CEO Abdulaziz Al Hussein told Al Eqtisadiah.
Currently, Intra can produce “tens” of large-category drones and more than 100 small UAVs annually. The facility also designs and manufactures associated payloads and support systems. Al Hussein said the expansion aligns with Saudi Arabia’s national drive to localize defense industries and bolster self-sufficiency in advanced military technologies.
Since commencing operations in early 2024, Intra has been fulfilling domestic orders while developing its technical and engineering capabilities through a dedicated R&D center. The company aims to localize over 50 percent of Saudi military expenditure by focusing on drone technologies, with plans to enter regional and global security markets, though serving the Kingdom’s military and security agencies remains its top priority.
Intra’s advanced Riyadh plant is accredited by the General Authority for Military Industries and joins a broader ecosystem that includes the Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI), established by the Public Investment Fund in 2017 to increase local defense manufacturing. Late last year, Numu Financial launched the first Saudi investment fund dedicated to the military sector and acquired a stake in Intra to support its strategic growth.
