Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: The total number of point-of-sale (PoS) transactions in Saudi Arabia surpassed 1 billion in April, with sales totaling SAR 58.3 billion, according to recent official figures.

The monthly bulletin released by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed that the number of PoS terminals across the Kingdom increased slightly to 2.45 million in April, up from 2.40 million in March.

The food and beverages (F&B) sector accounted for the largest share of PoS sales at SAR 9.5 billion, made through 241 million transactions, followed by the restaurants and cafés sector with PoS sales of SAR 7.5 billion, made across 262 million transactions.

Moreover, the number of e-commerce transactions made through Mada cards registered 183 million in April, achieving sales worth SAR 33 billion, down from SAR 35 billion in March.

These figures reflect the accelerating digitization of Saudi Arabia's economy, driven by high smartphone penetration, strong fintech adoption, and the widespread use of digital payment platforms.
