Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: The Saudi Electronic Materials Company (SEMC), a leading developer of semiconductor materials and fabrication technologies, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Si-Ware Systems, a global leader in Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) sensing and semiconductor technologies, to advance MEMS sensing technologies in Saudi Arabia.

The MoU establishes a framework for joint development, fabrication, and commercialization of next-generation sensors, supporting Vision 2030’s goals of building a competitive semiconductor ecosystem and positioning the Kingdom as a regional hub for AI and advanced technologies, according to the official statement released today.

SEMC will combine its semiconductor materials capabilities and fabrication expertise with Si-Ware’s expertise in MEMS design, system architecture, and sensor innovation to explore localized manufacturing and process development within the Kingdom.

MEMS technologies are foundational components for emerging intelligent systems powering robotics, drones, autonomous navigation platforms, industrial automation, and next-generation material sensing applications.

Mohamed Elharbi, CEO of SEMC, stated that the partnership represents an important step toward strengthening the local semiconductor ecosystem. “By combining Si-Ware’s MEMS design expertise with SEMC’s fabrication and materials capabilities, we aim to enable new sensing technologies while advancing local innovation and high-technology manufacturing in the Kingdom.”

The collaboration will focus on several sensing technologies, including MEMS inertial sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, and inertial measurement units (IMUs); as well as near-infrared (NIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) spectral sensors.

Hisham Haddara, CEO of Si-Ware Systems, commented: “Through this collaboration with SEMC, we aim to bring advanced MEMS sensing technologies closer to the region while supporting the Kingdom’s efforts to localize high-impact semiconductor innovation. Partnering with SEMC creates an opportunity to accelerate the development of next-generation sensors that power intelligent systems across robotics, drones, and advanced industrial applications.”

Moreover, both parties will launch joint research initiatives, knowledge transfer programs, and technical collaboration to strengthen regional capabilities in advanced semiconductor and sensing technologies and support the growth of high-tech industries across the Middle East.
