Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) offered bids for four power generation projects with a total capacity of 7,200 MW.
In a statement, the company said that the power plants will operate using natural gas combined cycle technology with provision for carbon capture unit readiness.
The four projects include two power plants in the central region (Rumah1 and Rumah2) and two in the eastern region (Nairyah1 and Nairyah2). Each plant will operate with a capacity of 1,800 MW.
These projects align with the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) goals to achieve greenhouse gases (GHGs) net-zero through the circular carbon economy by 2060.
Furthermore, the projects reflect the efforts of the energy sector to recognize Vision 2030’s objectives to improve generation efficiency and reduce costs through diversifying energy production sources.
In November, SPPC released a request for qualification (RFQ) for four solar projects with a combined capacity of around 3,700 MW within the fifth phase of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP).
Moreover, it signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with a three-company consortium for the 400 MW Tabarjal solar PV energy project.
