Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) plans to invest more than SAR 6 billion to establish nine logistics parks at different ports in the Kingdom, Mawani’s spokesperson Khaled Alghayth revealed.
The authority plans to build five parks at Jeddah Islamic Port, three parks at King Abdul Aziz Seaport in Dammam, and one park at King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu, Alghayth stated in an interview with Al Eqtisadiah newspaper.
He added that establishing the logistics parks underscores Mawani’s commitment to transforming the Kingdom into a global logistics hub and tackling challenges facing maritime traffic notably in the Red Sea.
The new parks aim to attract more investments, create new direct and indirect jobs, and handle a massive number of containers every year, in alignment with the objective of the National Transport and Logistics Services Strategy (NTLS) to consolidate the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub.
Alghayth clarified that the logistics parks will receive different types of cargo, including building materials, industrial products, consumer goods, vehicles, petrochemicals, and food products.
The parks will include fully-equipped warehouses, storage areas, and advanced infrastructure, in addition to providing distinctive logistics services.
It is worth noting that Mawani signed an agreement with MEDLOG to build a logistics park at Jeddah Islamic Port over a total area of 100,000 square meters.
