Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: Spanish engineering company Técnicas Reunidas and China’s energy giant Sinopec won a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for a green hydrogen-to-ammonia plant in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia.
The FEED contract will span 10 months, after which both companies are expected to offer an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) proposal valued at several billion euros, as reported by Asharq Al Awsat newspaper.
Commissioned by ACWA Power, the new plant will feature 4 GW of electrolysis capacity and produce 400,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, which will then be converted into green ammonia for export. It will also include water desalination infrastructure and an export terminal to support global distribution.
With plans to start commercial operations by 2030, this project is expected to expand Saudi Arabia’s renewable hydrogen export capacity, reinforcing the Kingdom’s position as a leading supplier of green ammonia for industrial decarbonization and power generation markets worldwide.
