Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: The Saudi tire manufacturer Green Sea is preparing to establish a state-of-the-art tire manufacturing plant in Yanbu, featuring the first Saudi brand ‘Sand Stone', with investments exceeding SAR 5.5 million, according to the company’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ali Mokhtar.
The Sand Stone plant will cover 362,000 square meters at Yanbu Industrial City, leveraging Chinese technology, Mokhtar revealed in an interview with Al Eqtisadiah newspaper.
Construction of the plant is set to begin in 2025, with operations planned to commence by the end of 2028. The plant is projected to have an annual production capacity of 2.5 million tires for small and medium-sized vehicles, 2.5 million tires for military vehicles, and 500,000 tires for electric vehicles (EVs).
Mokhtar also highlighted that the plant will also produce 150,000 tires annually for warplanes and small aircraft.
Green Sea, the operator of the Sand Stone plant, aims to increase the plant’s capacity by nearly 3 million tires in the future.
The project is designed to revolutionize the local tire industry by transferring proven Chinese expertise directly into Saudi Arabia, aligning perfectly with Vision 2030’s goals of economic diversification and technological advancement. By harnessing advanced production techniques and innovative processes, the plant aims to reduce reliance on imported tires, enhance local manufacturing capabilities, and create significant employment opportunities.
