Dubai – Sharikat Mubasher: The UAE announced the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Authority, a new national entity tasked with overseeing data, artificial intelligence, and digital government initiatives across the country.

Approved by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Authority will consolidate the responsibilities of three existing bodies: the Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, the Digital Government Sector at the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, and the UAE Data Office, according to a recent press release.

The new entity will report directly to the UAE Cabinet and will be chaired by Omar Sultan Al Olama. Its mandate includes developing the country's AI strategy, managing government data, advancing digital government services, and promoting the use of agentic AI in public sector operations.

The Authority will also be responsible for proposing policies and legislation related to AI and digital transformation, overseeing national data platforms, enhancing coordination between federal and local government initiatives, and supporting cybersecurity and information security efforts.

The move is part of the UAE's broader strategy to accelerate AI-driven digital transformation, improve government efficiency, and strengthen the country's position as a global hub for digital innovation and the digital economy.
