Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: Aramco Ventures, Aramco’s corporate venturing arm, announced a strategic investment in ROTOBOOST, a Finnish energy-transition technology company, to support its journey to scale its proprietary methane-splitting technology.

ROTOBOOST will use the investment to strengthen its presence in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and North America, the company announced in a recent press release.

This fresh capital will accelerate ROTOBOOST’s strategy to deploy commercial-scale methane-splitting systems for oil and gas, power, steel, and marine sectors, and to expand production capacity for high-value solid carbon products serving battery, polymer, coating, steel, and tire markets.

Aramco Ventures’ investment will also help the Finnish company continue research and development (R&D) investment to enhance methane-splitting reactor efficiency, feedstock flexibility, and carbon product applications.

Zayed Alamri, executive managing director at Aramco Ventures, said: “ROTOBOOST aims to develop methane-splitting technology to produce hydrogen and solid carbon materials for potential use in batteries, anti-corrosion coatings, and polymers. Through our investment, we aim to support the company’s technology development and exploration of commercial opportunities. We look forward to working with the team as it seeks to assess potential industrial applications and build relationships with prospective customers and partners.”

In turn, Kaisa Nikulainen, CEO of ROTOBOOST, affirmed that the investment from Aramco Ventures supports the company’s vision that methane-splitting can drive industrial decarbonization efforts. “With Aramco Ventures’ strategic support and global network, we are well-positioned to scale our technology across key industrial sectors worldwide,” she added.

ROTOBOOST’s methane-splitting technology utilizes a molten catalyst to convert natural gas (C1-C6) and other hydrocarbon feedstocks into low-carbon hydrogen and advanced carbon materials such as high-value Crumpled Graphene Nanoplatelets (CGNPs).
